MAMAN'S MOONS - by Joe Nogueira - 2006 - Ottawa
Copyrighted 613-739-7965
This giant bronze spider carrying pure marble eggs, establishes a duality between voracious predator and protective motherly instincts. In my mind's eye, the paradox is mimicked by the interaction between the moon and the spider's eggs. If the eggs were moons, the predator already has its next victim in sight but, if the moon were a lost egg, maman is relentlessly preoccupied with gathering the unprotected.
A telephoto lens was used for tighter framing, emphasizing a predatory nature and to make the moon appear more reachable. The subject was captured at sunset to allow for the extraction of the maximum irradiant bronze color in post-processing and in so doing, peserving the theme's delicate balance.
